Volume 8: Youth

We have heard it said, perhaps far too often, that the youth will change the world. But this is more than a tired cliche: this notion is a reflection of the centrality of young people, both in driving social change and in influencing popular culture. From music and fashion to food and politics — and everything in between — youth culture has always been a powerful force in determining what matters in our society.
But the thin veneer of this promising portrayal conceals the fact that youths stand at a critical juncture in their lives. Changing cultural and political contexts present new sets of opportunities and challenges for every generation. These are the murky waters through which individuals, standing on the precipice of adulthood, must navigate.
Through this theme, we explore the complexities of what it means to be a young person in this day and age. It is a celebration of the values, trends, and accomplishments that will come to define this generation, but also an examination of the new, distinct difficulties they face today.
